About

About the Site

I’ve been doing the website thing for many years now, and doing the blog thing since 2007 when I launched Conveniently Misplaced. Over time as I developed that site it finally became a place to talk about Detroit related things, and later as I got into photography I started posting more and more pictures on there. I decided that as I had already decided on a genre for CM I wasn’t going to change it again. And since I had enough work that I wanted to show being built up, I opted to undertake the task of creating a new Photoblog to handle such a task.

And with that, Misplaced Focus was born. On January 1, 2010 I launched this site as a place to handle the burden of the photo postings. It also gives me a better medium for selling prints and a more professional look than my DeviantArt account, where I primarily posted my pictures (and long before that, Photoshopped wallpapers and photo manipulations) before opening MF.

So armed with about 30 of my favorite and most popular pieces and the powerful WordPress blogging platform, MF came to life.

About John

I’m a 24 year old guy from Mount Clemens, MI. I was born in Detroit and have lived my entire life in the Detroit area. I got my Bachelors in Web Development in 2008 and currently work for a website development and SEO company in Warren by day. By night, I’m a graduate student at Wayne State University studying Urban Planning. It may be the longest masters program ever.

Throughout my short time on this earth I have been a traveler, a musician, a computer geek, a politician, a radical, an artist and most recently, a photographer. Like most of the other things on my little list I choose to take pictures as a form of leisure, it’s something I enjoy doing and will continue doing it until I no longer desire to do so. But I’m pretty serious about my hobbies, so I don’t think the desire will be leaving me any time soon.

About the Equipment

The currently have 2 cameras: a small point & shoot Samsung NV15, which comes with me just about where ever I go. Never underestimate the potential of always having a camera on you, just because you never know what is going to happen.

My DSLR is the Nikon D5000 which I completely adore. I also make it a habit to carry a tripod with me in my car at all times. Just in case.

You’ll notice that there are pictures in my gallery that are taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. It does not belong to me, and I only used it as it was what I had at my disposal at the time. I hate that camera, you can google the reasons why it sucks.

About The Prints

So here’s the deal with the prints. They are all a set price, $25. This price includes shipping to the US, Canada, or Mexico. If you want to place an order overseas let me know, we’ll figure it out.

The only size I offer is 8 x 10. If you want smaller prints for any reason, like a 4 x 6 or a 5 x 7, I will be happy to accommodate that as well. Email me and we can work out some pricing. The 8 x 10s are professionally printed locally (I don’t print them myself) on FujiFilm Crystal Archive glossy photo paper.

Shipping is done using the USPS priority Air Mail, usually 2 day.

If you want larger prints, a lot of them are offered through DeviantArt. There’s a list of icons under the camera info on each print, if you see this one:

Then the photo is on DeviantArt and odds are I have print purchasing available through them. If it’s not, let me know and I’ll take care of enabling it for you. I may set something up through zazzle in the future, but for the time being it’s either direct order from me or go through DeviantArt.

If for whatever reason you want something printed on Banner material or on adhesive vinyl, let me know and I’ll get you custom pricing on that as well.
